Context

This position is part of the IOM project “Sustainable Recovery of the Kryvyi Rih Water Supply System following the Destruction of the Kakhovka Dam", aimed at the restoration and sustainability of the Kryvyi Rih water supply system after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.

Key stakeholders of the project: Kryvbasvodokanal (KBVK), Kryvyi Rih City Council, WASH Cluster, other WASH actors (including UNICEF), as well as relevant state bodies An engineering consulting company was involved in the implementation for technical support and support.

Expected project results:

  • Improving the efficiency of water treatment processes;

  • Reducing the energy consumption of pumping stations;

  • Increasing system productivity of water distribution.

About the role

The WASH Field Liaison Project Associate will be the IOM field contact person in Kryvyi Rih and will provide daily coordination with stakeholders, support of field trips and work of engineering teams, record keeping, record progress, and support community feedback (AAP).

Main responsibilities

1) Interaction with stakeholders and coordination

  • Build and maintain working relationships with the water utility and local authorities; be the field focal point of the IOM, track requests and fulfill agreements.

  • Plan and organize visits/meetings: prepare agenda, confirm participants, ensure logistics.

  • Prepare and distribute short minutes of meetings with decisions and action points.

2) Support engineering consulting companies

  • Organize access to objects and accompany technical teams during surveys, measurements, interviews with stakeholders; ensure compliance with basic HSE requirements (occupational health/safety).

  • Maintain basic monitoring on sites together with IOM engineers: checklists, daily photo logs, recording non-conformities or safety risks for escalation.

3) Data, documentation and reporting

  • Maintain field “document hub” on SharePoint: protocols, photo evidence, permits, as-built documents from contractors/KBVK, etc.

  • Prepare weekly field notes on progress, risks, community concerns; contribute to monthly reports and dashboards.

  • Update simple trackers (issues/risks/decisions) and support progress verification for payment certificates and acceptances.

4) Community Engagement and Communications (AAP)

  • Be a courteous contact person for community representatives during visits.

  • Register feedback/complaints, transfer to responsible teams and track their closure.

  • Inform the communication team about important events/stories; upon request, support photo, video and story collection.

Other tasks: carry out additional tasks of the head/head within the functional limits.

Requirements for the candidate

Education and experience

  • Higher education (bachelor’s degree) in the field of civil/water/environmental engineering, construction management, public administration or related fields (engineering education is an advantage).

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the implementation of WASH/infrastructural projects or work with municipal utilities in Ukraine.

Languages

  • Ukrainian — fluent.

  • English - working level.

Key skills

  • Coordination and communication with local authorities, utilities, contractors, communities.

  • Organization of field missions/visits, logistics, security attentiveness.

  • Keeping documentation, preparation of protocols, reports, progress trackers.

  • Basic skills of site supervision/monitoring the quality and safety of works.

  • Confident use of MS Office (Word, Excel), email, online tools; database/SharePoint experience preferred.

  • Independence, ability to meet deadlines, cultural sensitivity and teamwork.


Terms

  • Type of contract: National UN Volunteer Specialist (UCoS from April 2026), full-time day.

  • Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension.

  • Location: Kryvyi Rih (UN Premises), work “in the field” as needed.

Financial and social guarantees

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) — 1690 USD (equivalent in UAH) to cover accommodation, utilities and basic expenses (taking into account Well-Being Differentials for duty station “E”).

  • One-time payment entry lump sum — 400 USD.

  • Medical and life insurance — for the duration of the contract.

  • Vacations (annual/learning/sick leave) — according to the policies of UN Volunteers.
