Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading international humanitarian organization whose main goal is to protect, support and promote long-term solutions for displaced populations.

DRC exists in Ukraine since 2014. At the moment, the DRB has more than 800 employees on the territory of Ukraine to implement response to emergency situations in the sectors of social and legal protection, livelihoods, housing reconstruction and humanitarian disarmament and peacebuilding (humanitarian demining), providing direct support to responsible persons and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as their partners. DRB will continue to develop long-term solutions, adapting them to the changing situation.

DRB is currently looking for a highly qualified Security Specialist to join the team in Shostka.

General purpose of the role:

Assist in the development and implementation of DRB security risk management systems, including policies, plans and procedures at the sites of operations. Provide administrative assistance and technical support, as well as ensure safe, reliable and efficient implementation of programs and projects.

Your main duties in the position will be:

  • Monitor the development of the situation in the specified areas of activity and transfer this data to the relevant employees
  • Collect, verify, analyze and report information that affects or may affect DRB activities
  • Create a network of local contacts that will facilitate safer access for DRB activities
  • Monitor personnel movements, report movement violations and, if necessary, initiate emergency response situations
  • Develop and conduct security training for DRB staff and drivers
  • Prepare and submit Security Incident Reports (SIRs)
  • Conduct facility security assessments and identify new office space, guest houses, warehouses and other facilities as needed. This may include regular security audits such as checking fire extinguishers, safe room supplies, first aid kits, emergency communications equipment and physical security elements (MOSS)
  • Conducting Security Risk Assessments (SRA)
  • Ensuring adequate access controls are in place at all DRB facilities
  • Developing standard operating procedures, action plans in emergency situations, threat assessments and other documents
  • Update pre-arrival briefings, local security regulations, telephone security chains and security briefings
  • Assist in implementing realistic DRB security policies, protocols and procedures
  • Participate in the procurement and issuance of security equipmentand protective equipment.
  • Assist in the development of DRB Security Improvement Plans (SIP) for any identified security gaps
  • Notify appropriate parties in the event of an emergency and support incident response
  • Support the Security Team Leader in updating the Security Level System (SLS)
  • Provide assistance to DRB in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, regulations and instructions on occupational safety, industrial hygiene, fire safety and environmental protection
  • Perform constant control over employees' compliance with occupational safety requirements
  • Ensure location-specific training on safety issues for partners and/or coordinate the involvement of relevant safety specialists; make reasonable adjustments to standardized briefings as necessary.
  • Provide ongoing and, as needed, targeted coaching to security and defense partners to support their operational activities and capability development.
  • Support partners in developing and improving security policies and strategies.
  • Implement onboarding partners into the DRB alert system, as well as providing initial briefings and follow-up consultations during alerts.
  • Prepare and facilitate training for partners on current security issues.
  • Perform any other duties related to the nature of the work as directed by the manager

About you

To be successful in this position, we expect you to have a bachelor's degree, at least 2 years of experience in security and management, as well as experience in an NGO. In addition, we also expect the following from you:

  • Advanced English
  • Fluency in Ukrainian.

Preferred:

  • Skills in security, fire safety and evacuation
  • Skills in security and emergency management

We offer:

  • Duration of the contract: 3 months trial period, with the possibility of extension depending on the results of the work and financing.
  • The vacancy is open only for citizens of Ukraine. Salary and conditions in accordance with the Terms of Employment of national staff of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine.
