Our activity in Ukraine began in 2014. Since then, we have greatly expanded our geographic presence, providing support to children and families affected by war. We work in areas such as education, child protection, food security and social support, as well as advocacy activities aimed at ensuring lasting change in children's lives.  Ukraine.

The position involves leadership in the development of strategies, as well as the technical design and implementation of high-quality programs aimed at strengthening child-focused climate resilience, both in humanitarian and development programs.

The advisor will support thematic technical advisors in integrating climate risk assessment and measures to increase climate resilience into programs to effectively promote survival, development and protection of children for their full participation in the climate crisis.

The position involves working closely with program/partnership, gender and CRG advisors to promote strategic engagement among all partners, capacity building at the partner level, exchange of best practices, and collaboration on inclusive and gender-sensitive climate resilience and climate justice for children.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical leadership on climate resilience for the Country Office, ensuring alignment with Save the Children's global thematic priorities and breakthrough areas, as well as providing technical guidance and shaping the strategic approach in within the broader country strategy with clear links to other thematic and cross-thematic areas, with a special focus on gender equality and inclusion of people with disabilities.
  • Support country representation in the implementation of the Save the Children Global Policy on Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change.

Program quality assurance (design and implementation):

  • Work closely with colleagues from new business development to identify and develop financing opportunities; interact with technical partners, donors, etcLegislation within Save the Children.
  • Lead technical development, planning, program design development and project proposal preparation at the new program creation stage, as well as ensure the development and implementation of high-quality, comprehensive child-focused climate resilience programs, taking into account global best practices.
  • Work with colleagues in the field of Child Rights (Child Rights Governance) to ensure that a human rights approach is reflected in development and implementation programs, with a strong emphasis on children's participation.
  • Contribute to the development, dissemination, monitoring and evaluation of innovative tools and resources to ensure the quality of programs aimed at strengthening climate resilience, focused on the needs of children.

Networking and external interaction:

  • According to the strategy and leadership of the Representation in the country, carry out strategic positioning with donors, partners and government bodies at the national level, ensuring that Save the Children is seen as a priority partner in child-focused climate resilience programs.
  • Develop partnerships with climate justice organizations, including children's and child-led groups, as well as civil society organizations focused on children's and human rights, climate change and the environment.
  • Build partnerships at the national and regional levels through representation in regional clusters, working groups and technical platforms, as well as providing adequate documentation to demonstrate Save the Children's leadership in the field of climate resilience in Ukraine.

To be successful, you must have: 400"> 

  • Master's degree in a field related to climate change or other relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of experience providing technical leadership in the design and implementation of humanitarian and development programs aimed at enhancing climate resilience.

  • Proven experience in applying child-centered approaches in programs on climate resilience.

  • In-depth understanding of principles and best practices in the field of climate resilience, the climate change sector, policy priorities and key climate risks for children most affected by inequality and discrimination in Ukraine.

  • Significant experience in developing and conducting training, professional development and mentoring for colleagues and partners.

  • Experience in conducting analysis context, capacity and policy, as well as influence and advocacy at national and regional levels to ensure compliance by states and other stakeholders to implement children's rights.

  • Proven skills in program design, monitoring and evaluation, including developing ways to achieve sustainable impact at scale for climate resilience.

  • Ability to generate and use data and evidence dfor innovation, implementation, learning and sharing of what works and what doesn't for children in crisis due to climate change.

  • Proven experience in successful business development/fundraising and engagement with donors.

  • Experience in supporting humanitarian preparedness, response and recovery.

Desirable:

  • Experience in child rights programming.

  • Proven experience in applying the principles of Locally-Led Adaptation (approaches led by local communities).

  • Experience in a complex organizational structure with a matrix system management.
