Main goal:
Organize and perform anesthesia medical activities in accordance with the policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards of MSF and in close cooperation with the surgeon and other medical personnel; increase the knowledge and practical skills of anesthesiology staff through on-the-job mentoring and knowledge transfer in order to ensure the quality of medical care provided to beneficiaries.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-operative consultations, assessing the risks of the operation in cooperation with by the surgeon, providing the beneficiary with relevant information and determining the type of anesthesia to ensure the best conditions before surgery. Carry out all actions related to anesthesia during the operation to ensure its safe and adequate performance.
- Prepare the necessary drugs, materials and equipment in advance.
- Prescribe and maintain anesthesia in accordance with the current rules of hygiene and asepsis.
- Monitor the condition of the beneficiaries throughout the intervention.
- Ensure the transportation of the beneficiaries to the postoperative ward awakening, fully regaining their consciousness and prescribing an analgesia protocol.
- Provide recommendations for post-operative care in the intensive care unit and on the ward with the surgeon, including fluid management, oxygenation monitoring and airway care, and respiratory physiotherapy and mobilization with particular emphasis on analgesia during recovery.
- Implement and monitor compliance MSF hygiene, procedures and protocols in the operating room/recovery room, as well as the handling of anesthesia equipment (decontamination, sterilization, storage conditions, etc.) to ensure the safety of patients and staff.also keep records in the operational journal, consumption, empty ampoules of narcotics. Collaborate with IAM to avoid stock shortages.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of operating unit equipment (oxygen concentrator, ventilation equipment, etc.).
- Organize the work of personnel under his/her responsibility, participate in team management (training, performance appraisal, motivation, internal/external communication, etc.) to ensure availability of appropriately sized and qualified staff teams.
- Collaborate with other project departments (responding to emergency department requests, supporting other services as needed, etc.) and participating in emergency activities or research missions to support the overall MSF project with their expertise and competencies.
- Ensure proper maintenance of administrative documentation (filling in beneficiary cards, forms, statistics, databases, etc.) and prepare regular reports on results, procedures and problem situations to update data on daily activities and support decision-making processes.
Features of the unit MSF:
- Work as a trauma team leader and perform hands-on medical interventions in the emergency department.
- Perform hands-on interventions in the intensive care unit.
- Skills with ultrasound - FAST protocol, chest and abdomen is an advantage; as well as the ability to train local staff.
- Conduct clinical trainings for VND/HIV staff to promote their capacity building.
- Participate in the transport of critical beneficiaries with the ambulance team when necessary
- Regularly monitor the quality of medical care and the correct implementation of MSF protocols.
- Participate in case analysis meetings and mortality.
- Support the MAM (Medical Loyalty Manager) in the correct collection of activity data and their analysis.
The project is currently based in Shaharskyi and the city of Pavlograd, with the possibility of changing the location of the hospital as needed. Teams work in rotations for 2 weeks.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Diploma of an anesthesiologist, recognized by the state.
Experience:
- Preferred — two years of work experience as an anesthesiologist, work experience in intensive care unit/VND and polytrauma management.
- Experience working in MSF or other NGOs, as well as in developing countries is an advantage.
- The desired level of English is B1-B2.
