Deux Vingt is seeking an experienced Typographer or Type Designer to collaborate on a custom font development project. If you have a deep understanding of letterforms, craftsmanship in type design, and the technical expertise to bring a typeface from concept to completion, we want to hear from you. This is a contract-based opportunity and compensation structure will be discussed based on scope of opportunity, skill level, bandwidth. 

Project Overview:
We're looking for a type designer to develop a custom typeface that balances functionality with distinctive character. You'll work closely with our creative team to understand the visual direction, explore design concepts, and refine the font through multiple iterations. The ideal candidate brings both creative vision and technical precision to type design, with a portfolio that demonstrates expertise in letterform construction and font production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop a custom typeface from initial sketches through final production files
• Collaborate with our creative team to ensure the font aligns with brand vision and practical application needs
• Create multiple weights and styles as needed for the project scope
• Produce production-ready font files (OTF/TTF) with proper spacing, kerning, and OpenType features
• Provide documentation and guidelines for font usage
• Refine letterforms through feedback and testing phases
• Ensure technical quality and compatibility across digital and print applications

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in type design with a strong portfolio of custom typefaces
• Proficiency in type design software (Glyphs, FontLab, RoboFont, or similar)
• Deep understanding of typography fundamentals: proportion, rhythm, spacing, and letterform anatomy
• Technical knowledge of font production, including OpenType features, hinting, and file formats
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to craft
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote creative team
• Experience with branding applications of custom type is a plus
