We are inviting a Specialist of the IDP Protection Department in Kharkiv

Position Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with policies, guidelines and standards NRC.
  • Ensure compliance with the department's strategy, tools, manuals, instructions and standards.
  • Be technically responsible for the implementation of program activities within the Eastern region of Ukraine.
  • Track financial costs and maintain accurate project documentation in compliance with the principles of processing confidential data, for activities IDP protection program.
  • Report as required by management, including timely reporting on programmatic and contextual issues.
  • Provide technical support and professional development to IDP protection program staff.
  • Evaluate, promote and document ideas for technical improvement and options for further development programs.
  • Ensure that projects are targeted to beneficiaries most in need, conduct research and evaluation of new and better ways of assistance.
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in accordance with the advocacy strategy.
  • Provide monitoring, documentation and technical support for the implementation of project activities carried out executive partners, if necessary. 400">Provide individual protection assistance (including in-kind support, cash assistance, escort) to individuals who are at risk or at risk.
  • Make safe referrals for assistance within the organization and to external specialist service providers, working with the Protection Coordinator.
  • Wireto assess the needs and risks of individuals.
  • Provide psychological first aid to persons who need it.
  • Ensure regular collection, analysis and internal dissemination of information about the IDP protection program.
  • Ensure proper protection of confidential information at the field level, develop and maintain databases, storage documents, etc. All data collection, information/data storage and all information sharing must be done in accordance with existing data protection protocols and privacy standards.
  • Support field data collection to inform relevant internal and external protection assessments, risk analysis and needs assessments.
  • Support the creation of a protective environment in shared living spaces through protection inclusion activities and training of relevant groups staff.
  • Ensure consistent application of an age, gender and diversity (AGD) approach to IDP protection through community and participatory methods.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including partner agencies, community leaders/representatives and service providers.
  • Represent the NRC at external meetings as assigned by the Protection Coordinator, including bilateral meetings with partners and local authorities.

General professional competencies for this position:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience, preferably including experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Documented results related to job duties.
  • Good reporting skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of English, both written and spoken preferred.

Context/specific skills, knowledge, education and experience required:

  • Experience in civilian self-defense activities and programming.
  • Experience in community engagement and consultation processes.
  • Experience in joint assessment.
  • Prior training in risk reduction.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with information management (protection).
  • Previous experience in defense or defense-related projects in the humanitarian sector or non-governmentalectory, or previous social work experience or training.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and best global safeguarding practices preferred. 
  • Knowledge of national social support systems in Ukraine is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the local context, including the socio-cultural, political, security and humanitarian situation.
  • Commitment to provide protection assistance in accordance with global and local best practices.
  • Flexibility and creativity in solving risks and protection needs.
