Position Duties:

General responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standards
  • Ensure compliance with the department's strategy, tools, manuals, instructions and standards
  • Technical responsibility for the implementation of Security activities within the Eastern region of Ukraine
  • Tracking financial costs and keeping accurate project documentation in compliance with the principles of processing confidential data, for measures of the IDP protection program
  • Formation of reports in accordance with management requirements, including timely reporting on programmatic and contextual issues
  • Providing technical support and professional development of personnel of the IDP protection program
  • Evaluating, promoting and documenting ideas for technical improvement and options for further development of the program
  • Ensuring that projects aim to beneficiaries most in need, research and evaluation of new and better ways of assistance
  • Advance the rights of IDPs/returnees according to the advocacy strategy
  • Support monitoring, documentation and technical support for the implementation of project activities carried out by implementing partners, if necessary.

Specific duties: 

  • Providing assistance in individual protection (including support in kind, monetary assistance, accompaniment) to persons who are threatened or exposed to risks.
  • Enable secure referral of requests for assistance within the organization and to external specialist service providers, working with the Protection Coordinator
  • Conduct  needs assessment and risks of individuals.
  • Providing psychological first aid to persons who need it
  • Ensure regular collection, analysis and internal dissemination of information about the IDP protection program
  • Ensuring adequate protection of confidential information at the field level, developing and maintaining databases, storage of documents, etc. All data collection, information/data storage and sharing of all information must be done in accordance with existing data protection protocols and standards privacy.
  • Support field data collection to inform relevant internal and external security assessments, risk analysis and needs assessments.
  • Support the creation of a protective environment in shared accommodation through protection inclusion activities and training of relevant staff groups
  • Ensure consistent application of an IDP-based approach to protection age, gender and diversity (AGD), through community and participatory methods.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including partner agencies, leaders /community representatives and service providers.
  • Represent the NRC at external meetings as assigned by the Protection Coordinator, including bilateral meetings with partners and local authorities.

General professional competencies for this position:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience, preferably including experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Documented results related to job duties.
  • Good reporting skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of English, preferably both written and spoken.
  • Experience in civilian self-defense activities and programming.
  • Experience in community engagement and consultation processes.
  • Experience in joint assessment.
  • Prior training in defense risk reduction.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with information management (protection).
  • Previous experience in protection or protection-related projects in the humanitarian or non-governmental sector, or previous experience or training in social work.
  • Knowledge of protection principles preferred and global security best practices. It is desirable to know the national systems of social support in Ukraine.
  • Lookin-depth knowledge and understanding of the local context, including the socio-cultural, political, security and humanitarian situation.
  • A commitment to provide protection assistance in accordance with global and local best practices .
  • Flexibility and creativity in addressing risks and protection needs.

  • Official employment, contract until 12/31/23 with extension
  • Work schedule from 9 to 17, Saturday/Sunday off
