Overview The 503rd Separate Marine Infantry Battalion is an elite unit of the Ukrainian Marine Corps, formed from the 1st Line Battalion of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade. On November 1, 2017, a separate military unit was created, and within two weeks, battalion commander Vadym Sukharevskyi received the combat flag of the unit from the hands of the President of Ukraine. This unit went through a glorious war path during fierce battles with the Russian invaders in the Mariupol direction: in Hnutovo, Talakivka, Vodyan, Lebedynsk, the soldiers of this battalion held the defense. The enemy felt the strong fighting spirit and indomitable will of the marines. In 2022, the battalion distinguished itself with heroism and courage during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when it repelled enemy attacks, destroying its equipment and manpower near the settlements of Maryinka, Opytne, Vodyane, Pisky, Avdiivka and other settlements of the Donetsk region. The battalion suffered heavy losses, but did not break down and continued the struggle for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. On June 3, 2022, the battalion was awarded the "For courage and bravery" medal. The unit confirmed its training during international exercises "Sea Breeze" (Ukraine), "Platinum Eagle" (Romania), "Agile Spirit" (Georgia). In 2017, the battalion made a 60-kilometer march along the coast of the Sea of Azov with full equipment. In 2019, the battalion's company took first place in the competition "The best unit of the same type of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - 2019".
