We work in areas such as education, child protection, food security and social support, and we also carry out advocacy activities aimed at ensuring lasting changes in the lives of children.

Purpose of the position:

Social support consultantwill be responsible for managing the social support program within the emergency response of the Southern Regional office of Save the Children in Ukraine. The specialist will supervise a team of social workers from Save the Children and partner organizations in order to provide comprehensive and comprehensive social support services for the most vulnerable and at-risk children. Work will include identifying and registering cases, developing individualized support plans, making referrals, providing direct services, monitoring progress and closing cases. 

Under the technical direction and in coordination with the Task Force on Unaccompanied Children (UASC Task Force), the Consultant will also be responsible for the implementation of the Save the Children program and partner organizations for family tracing and reunification (FTR) and alternative care in Ukraine and beyond.

  • Conduct regular case audits to ensure compliance with procedures and principles. To review the planning and further support of cases in order to ensure their management within the established terms in accordance with the priority criteria of cases.
  • Support the work of specialists in social support of partner organizations. 
  • Ensure internal referral mechanisms are in place (together with other sectors) and follow-up of cases after referral.
  • Maintain and update a map of existing services to which children and families can be referred.  Build partnerships with organizations and service providers at the local level.
  • Maintain transparent and diplomatic cooperation with the Government of Ukraine in coordination with the Expert on social support.
  • Support the Expert on child protection issues and social support programs for mental health in determining the training needs of social support specialists and support the constant development of their potential.
  • Promote and facilitate the access of social support specialists to programs supporting their emotional well-being.
  • During the search for relatives, initiate temporary forms of family alternative care for children who are left unaccompanied by adults or who have been separated from their families, including foster families, independent living with support.  
  • Oversee the proper identification and follow-up and monitoring of foster families/alternative forms of family care.
  • Program support, internal and external coordination and representation

    • Ensure timely completion and submission of monthly time sheets, conducting probationary evaluations and annual performance evaluations work.
    • Participate in the process of recruiting social support specialists.
    • Support the implementation and compliance of grant work plans, budgets (expenditure plans), as well as monitoring and evaluation plans.
    • Actively participate and represent Save the Children in the child protection sub-cluster (CPSS); coordinate interactions with other organizations providing case management services to children on referrals and case transfers.
    • Ensure ongoing and transparent communication and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including community members, community leaders and families.

    Data management and compliance with data protection principles

    • Ensure compliance by social workers compliance with the principles of confidentiality and ethical standards in working with cases.
    • Control the proper and correct management of cases, registers and electronic databases, as well as ensure compliance by social workers with the requirements of the data protection and information security policy (DP ISP).
    • Ensure regular updating of the case management tracker.
    • Control the correctness and completeness of the registration of cases, as well as the proper use of forms from case management.
    • Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation team, support the development and implementation of monitoring, evaluation and training systems for child protection programs and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

    To be successful, you must have:

    Education:Bachelor's degree in social work, social anthropology or other relevant disciplines.

    Work experience: At least 1 year of work experience in a development organization and at least six months of work experience in the field of social support or child protection.
