Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization that promotes and supports long-term solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people around the world. 

DRB is currently looking for a Chief Security Specialist, who will join the team in Kyiv, but with frequent and long business trips.

< p style="font-weight: 400; font-style: normal">General purpose of the role:

You will work in close cooperation with Regional Managers and field security specialists to ensure high standards of compliance with the requirements of the Security Risk Management System (SRM) of DRB, and coordinate all aspects of security within the geographic area of ​​responsibility to achieve safe and effective program delivery. With such a highly motivated national team, one of the main functions of this position will be to lead the capacity building of team members.

Activity coverage

Your work will focus on local DRB offices and ensuring adherence to DRB procedures and guidelines with additional operational support for activities at the country level. 

Your main responsibilities will be:

Building the team's potential< /u>

  • In close collaboration with the Head of the Security Department, develop a capacity building plan for field employees;
  • Provide proactive support in knowledge transfer to local staff;
  • Identify training and development opportunities and support local colleagues in taking advantage of these opportunities;
  • li>
  • Develop and deliver any relevant safety training;
  • Mentor and provide technical supervision to local safety personnel, including drivers and other colleagues with safety support responsibilities.< /li>

Security Risk Management:

  • Provide support in the development and implementation of the security risk management (SRM) process;
  • In collaboration with the Head of Security, help develop and review regional and country security management policies, protocols and procedures, maintain a high level of documentation and implement protocols in accordance with URB;
  • Work with local safety professionals to develop safety risk assessments (SRAs) for work locations, facilities and activities, and support the implementation of risk mitigation measures;< /span>
  • Analyze, manage and report relevant information within the geographical area of ​​responsibility to the Head of Security, Regional Managers or any other relevant official timely and proactively update relevant contextual data;
  • Create, update and maintain relevant safety documentation, data and records in relevant areas, including but not limited to maps, incident reports and special briefings;
  • In close cooperation with the Information Technology Department and local security specialists, under the leadership of Kerthe head of the security department, to facilitate the correct updating and maintenance of various digital platforms used to manage the security of the organization (Machforms, Sharepoint, Infoportal, maps (training will be provided on the use of systems specific to DRB));
  • Provide technical advice on the purchase of equipment, facilities, services and other resources related to security; 
  • Provide support to Head of Security, Regional Managers and HR in hiring new security personnel;
  • Review and approve field travel requests, work with program teams to develop secure plans where necessary and then remotely monitor movements in the field in collaboration with the operations department. Subsequently, in cooperation with national colleagues, delegate this task;
  • Coordinate emergency response at the local level within the geographical area of ​​responsibility;
  • Monitor formal and informal information networks, as well as open sources of information in order to provide appropriate recommendations in accordance with DRB policy;
  • To jointly develop development plans for security officers and assistants within the geographical area of ​​responsibility and support officers/assistants in the implementation of the plan;
  • li>Maintain and conduct security training for program and support staff;
  • Conduct briefings for foreign staff and new staff prior to their arrival in the country;
  • Contribute to emergency support to the Management Team incidents as needed;
  • Deputy for the Head of Security, as needed, support security teams across regions;
  • Any other tasks required to fulfill this role .

Management:

  • While this position has no direct reports, the successful candidate will be expected to provide technical support to the security team as needed in coordination with the Head of Security.

About you:

To be successful in this position, we expect you to have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a position related to security responsibility in international NGO( program and operations staff who meet these criteria but may not have held a position with the word "security" or "security" in the title may also apply). 

In addition, we also expect the following from candidates:

  • Willingness to learn, good sense of humor and high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate, but at the same time the ability to work independently, take initiative and make decisions
  • Interest in politics, security and a critical understanding of the current situation in Ukraine; knowledge of regional and wider geopolitical events and how they affect the war in Ukraine

  • Stable personality, able to act professionally under stress
  • Proven experience in training and mentoring for various audiences, both large groups and one-on-one
  • Experience working in a multicultural work environment
  • Experience in information gathering, analysis and report writing; critical incident management
  • Experience working in challenging or hazardous environments
  • Complete professional English language skills (ability to read and write English at a high level and work in a professional environment)

    We offer:

Salary and conditions in accordance with the Terms of Employment of the National and of the international staff of the Danish Refugee Council.
