About the job 

The ICRC Security & Crisis Management Support (SCMS) Unit recruits an Operations Room Operator to be based in its Kyiv office. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Operations Room Operator will be responsible for ensuring effective communication and information management as well as vigilant monitoring and support of vehicles and convoys engaged in ICRC activities, with a keen focus on implementing and upholding standard operating procedures. The aim is to guarantee the safety of ICRC teams by ensuring that all concerned parties adhere to established protocols and procedures. 

Start date: as soon as possible 

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Swiftly transmit and receive messages utilizing VHF radio, telephone, fax, and satellite, prioritizing communications based on their nature and urgency
  • Monitor and document the movements of all ICRC vehicles and maintain a real-time record of field activities
  • Conduct regular radio checks with ICRC staff to ensure seamless communication.
  • Keep a meticulous station log documenting all operational occurrences within the ICRC
  • Proficiently operate telecommunication equipment, including telephones, computers, and two-way radios
  • Keep the Management and Operations Room Supervisor promptly informed of any information or incidents that could impact the safety of personnel and assets
  • Provide concise and clear briefings to users on procedures and the use of telecom equipment

About you

To be successful as an Operations Room Operator in the Security & Crisis Management Support (SCMS) Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • Vocational trainings in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar filed is an asset
  • Some experience working with the ICRC is an asset
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Computer literacy
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
  • Confidence in managing projects and staff
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
