Medicos del Mundo is the Spanish division of the international network "Doctors of the World", which implements humanitarian aid programs in Ukraine. In April 2015, the organization "Medicos del Mundo" launched a humanitarian mission in eastern Ukraine with the aim of ensuring access to medical services for the most vulnerable population groups, in particular for the elderly and people with chronic diseases. One of the main goals of "Medicos del Mundo" is the timely provision of quality services to the population in the framework of primary health care (PHC), sexual and reproductive health (SRH), mental health and psychosocial support (PSPS), as well as combating gender-based violence (GBV). The organization "Medicos del Mundo" works with the most vulnerable communities of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia regions through the use of a mobile brigade approach, covering settlements that have been affected by hostilities or host large numbers of internally displaced persons in conditions of severe overload and destruction of the health care system due to war.

Job description Mental health and psychosocial support supervisor (PZPSP)

Base: Kyiv

Direct supervisor: PZPSP Coordinator

I. Context of intervention

MdM is an international humanitarian organization that provides health care to the most vulnerable populations. In Ukraine, MdM has been working since August 2015, implementing emergency aid and recovery programs in various regions. The main directions are the provision of services through mobile interdisciplinary teams (in particular PMD, SRH and PZPSP), as well as strengthening the local health care system through training, raising awareness and providing the necessary resources.

II. General purpose of the position

Ensuring high quality provision of psychosocial services by conducting individual and group supervisions, technical support, development of the professional capacity of the team, monitoring the effectiveness of interventions and coordination of intersectoral interaction. The PZPSP supervisor supports the integration of international standards (IASC, WHO) in the implementation of programs, contributes to the prevention of professional burnout, strengthening the psycho-emotional well-being of employees and the adaptation of humanitarian sensitive approaches to the local context.

The main duties of the PZPSP supervisor

Project implementation:

  • Provide support to the PZPSP Coordinator in quality implementation general activities of the PFSP in accordance with the planned plans.
  • Ensuring the coherence of all program components and their compliance with the needs, standards and international guidelines/policies in the field of PFSP.
  • Ensuring the reporting of the PFSP teams in the agreed time and of the appropriate quality.
  • Participating in needs assessment, data collection and monitoring or identificationfield visits together with other MdM employees
  • Provide support to the PZPSP Coordinator in updating the detailed technical plan for the implementation of the mission
  • Support the PZPSP Coordinator in the allocation of project activities to donor funds
  • Support the PZPSP Coordinator in writing project proposals, collect secondary and primary data for project proposals.

Conduct supervisions

  • Conducting individual supervisions for psychologists, with the aim of maintaining the quality of service provision, preventing professional burnout and solving complex cases.
  • Facilitation of group supervisions (clinical, methodical or emotional) with a focus on case analysis, skill development and support of team interaction.
  • Documentation of supervisions, formation recommendations, development of individual professional development plans as needed.

Training and team development

  • Determining the training needs of the team and participating in planning or conducting trainings.
  • Supporting new colleagues in the process of entering the role (mentoring, onboarding).
  • Promoting continuous professional development of employees PZPSP.

 Coordination and cross-sectoral interaction

  • Interaction with other departments to provide comprehensive support.
  • Participation in technical working groups, inter-organizational meetings, presentation of PZPSP direction.

Humanitarian sensitivity and context

  • Deep understanding of principles humanitarian response, including work in emergency situations, population displacement, limited access to services and high level of vulnerability of beneficiaries.
  • Application of humanitarian standards (IASC, MHPSS Minimum Service Package) in planning, implementation and monitoring of PZPSP-activities.
  • Ensuring the principles of security, gender equality and cultural sensitivity in all types interventions.

IV. Job Requirements

Education

  • Higher education in psychology, certification in a recognized method of psychotherapy.
  • Additional training or certification in the field of mental health and psychosocial support (PSPSP) is a must.
  • Privilege in certified approaches is an advantage (PM+, SH+, mhGAP, PFA, CETA etc.).

Professional experience

  • Experience in individual and group supervision for psychologists or PPSPS specialists.
  • Experience organizing and conducting trainings in the field of PPSPS, GBV (gender-based violence) or primary of medical and sanitary assistance (PMD).
  • Practical experience of implementation of structured interventions of PZPSP in a humanitarian or crisis context.
  • Knowledge of the health and social protection system in Ukraine.
  • Experience of coordinating multidisciplinary teams or accompanying teams in field conditions.
  • Skills in the development, implementation and monitoring of technical materials (protocols, SOPs, evaluation tools).
  • Sufficient computer skills, including MS Office, Teams, electronic reporting forms.

  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing, unstable environment with limited resources.

Humanitarian expertise

  • Deep understanding of the principles of humanitarian response, work in emergency situations and with vulnerable groups.
  • Experience of cooperation with international humanitarian organizations (INGO).
  • Knowledge of IASC, MHPSS, MSP, SPHERE standards will be an advantage.

Mobility

  • Readiness for work trips within Ukraine, including remote communities.

Languages

  • Fluent command of the Ukrainian language (oral and written).
  • Working command of English — the desired level is not lower than intermediate (intermediate).
