The Danish Refugee Council (DRC)is a leading international humanitarian organization whose main objective is which is the protection, support and promotion of long-term solutions for the population affected by displacement.
DRB has existed in Ukraine since 2014. At the moment, more than 700 employees work in DRB in total on the territory of Ukraine. In 2024, the DRC will continue to scale up significantly to implement emergency response in the social protection, livelihoods, housing rehabilitation and humanitarian disarmament and peacebuilding (humanitarian demining) sectors, providing direct support to responsible individuals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and as well as their partners. DRB will continue to develop long-term solutions, adapting them to the changing situation.
DRB is currently looking for a highly qualified A leading specialist in social and legal protection to work in our office in Kyiv.
Total positions:
You will become an integral part of the DRB program team, providing appropriate training and capacity building for defense teams to successfully perform their functions and deliver high-quality legal protection responses across all DRB lines of business. In addition, you will provide support in carrying out a potential assessment and building the capacity of partners, authorized persons and CSOs (civil society organizations) to implement legal protection programs according to the relevant standards and achieve the set goals for responding to the needs of vulnerable population groups in the field of protection.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Building capacity and training teams on issues strong>social and legal protection in the DRB
- In cooperation with the coordinator of social and legal protection issues in DRB, specialists and managers, you will provide support to the social and legal protection teams in capacity building, mentoring and technical support. You will work with managers and the social and legal protection coordinator in DRB to develop and implement training plans, as well as the necessary tools, instructions, standard operating procedures and presentations to ensure that protection teams have a sufficient technical level that meets DRB standards and global standards.
- In cooperation with managers on issues of social and legal protectionand Regional Program Managers/Territory Managers, support team leaders in deputizing managers, and support managers in building the capacity of team leaders to take on more responsibilities. To do this, develop clear work plans with defined intermediate results, regularly reviewing them together with managers and group leaders in accordance with the planned development process.
Capacity building, mentoring and support of partners in DRB, as well as public institutions providing services/authorized persons and civil society organizations
- In cooperation with the Department of Partnerships of the DRB conduct an assessment of the potential of partners implementing programs in the field of social and legal protection and use the results obtained to develop training and mentoring plans for partners.
- Support partners, authorized persons and public organizations in understanding and applying the relevant guidelines of the DRB and donor instructions, as well as compliance standards and technical standards for projects.
- Based on current and planned partner programs, as well as organizational mandates and strategies, identify key areas where partners need guidance and support to meet national and global standards.
- Conduct regular monitoring meetings and site visits with partners and facilitate capacity building and training plans.
- In coordination with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning team and partner groups, hold regular monitoring meetings with partners and inform partners of progress, challenges and support needs.
- Regularly communicate with partners about current challenges, successes and lessons learned, provide appropriate support to partners to achieve success in their current activities.
- Support in providing high-quality training for public service providers/authorities, partners and community organizations as defined in the protection strategy and the national strategy of the DRB.

- Technical Coordinators, Regional Program Managers, Sector Managers, MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Training) team, etc.
- National implementing partners
- Leading expert on social issueslegal protection is subject to the Program Manager.
About you:
To be successful in the Defense Specialist role, we expect you to have a Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Social work, law or other relevant field, at least 2-3 years of experienceimplementing protection programs in complex crisis situations, at least 2 years of experience in people management and fluency in English and Ukrainian at a high professional level.
In addition, we expect:
- Knowledge and experience in the implementation of protection programs in the areas of combating gender-based violence, general protection and PPE
- Previous proven experience in programs implemented through local partners or in remote management
- Proven experience in capacity building and training of national staff and local partners
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
All DRB positions require their incumbents to possess key competencies defined by the DRB:
We offer:
Contract: One year contract after successful completion of an initial 3-month trial period.
Level: G - non-management
Place of duty: Kyiv (with at least 40% of business trips to the regional offices of the DRB)
Start date: as soon as possible
Wages and conditions in accordance with the Conditions of Employment of National Staff of the Danish Refugee Council.
