Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading international humanitarian organization whose main goal is to protect, support and promote long-term solutions for displaced populations.

DRC exists in Ukraine since 2014. At the moment, the DRB has more than 800 employees on the territory of Ukraine to implement response to emergency situations in the sectors of social and legal protection, livelihoods, housing reconstruction and humanitarian disarmament and peacebuilding (humanitarian demining), providing direct support to responsible persons and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as their partners. DRB will continue to develop long-term solutions, adapting them to the changing situation.

DRB is currently looking for a highly qualified Junior specialist in the Emergency Humanitarian Response Program to join the team in the city Shostka.

General purpose of the role

Supervised by Emergency Officer and Senior Emergency Specialist The Emergency Response Specialist supports the implementation of emergency relief efforts, including cash assistance, non-food items (NFI) and winter preparedness programs.

The primary focus of the role is on field implementation of activities, interaction with beneficiaries, data collection and record keeping, ensuring effective, accountable relief delivery.

Your main duties in the position will be:

Program activities and implementation:

  • Support for the implementation of emergency aid measures (cash assistance, NFI, preparation for the winter period) in accordance with work plans.
  • Participation in needs assessments, beneficiary registration and field trips.
  • Assistance in the identification and registration of beneficiaries in accordance with program criteria.
  • Assistance in the preparation of documentation for carrying out distributions and payments to beneficiaries.
  • Supporting distributions and ensuring the implementation of activities in accordance with DRB procedures.

Interaction with communities and accountability to the affected population (AAP):

  • Interact with beneficiaries and community members in a courteous and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Ensure that beneficiaries are provided with clear information about activities, their implementation timelines, and types of assistance.
  • Support the collection of feedback and complaints in accordance with the principles of accountability to the affected population (AAP).
  • Ccontribute to building trust with communities through regular presence and communication.

Data and documentation:

  • Collect and record accurate data on beneficiaries and activities
  • Ensure proper documentation and storage of supporting materials (Means of Verification — MoVs).
  • Maintain secure storage and confidentiality of beneficiary data.
  • Maintain and regularly update necessary trackers and lists.

Coordination:

  • Participate in internal team meetings and coordination activities upon request.
  • Maintain basic internal referrals between DRB sectors as needed.
  • Cooperate with other team members during fieldwork activities.

Logistics and field support:

  • Contribute to the organization of field missions and the provision of aid.
  • Assist in the reception, processing and distribution of non-food items (NFI).
  • Ensure proper documentation of assistance provided.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have at least 1 year of practical experience in a relevant field in a non-governmental organization. In addition, we also expect the following:

Mandatory requirements:

  • A relevant higher education degree (eg political science, international development or economics) or an equivalent professional qualification
  • Previous experience participating in field activities (registrations, distributions or interaction with communities)
  • Basic understanding of data collection and documentation processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with beneficiaries and community members
  • High level of responsibility and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow procedures and work under supervision
  • Fluency in Ukrainian in language
  • Good working skills with MS Excel and data entry tools

Desired requirements:

  • Experience working with vulnerable population categories
  • Knowledge of basic humanitarian principles (AAP, Protection, Inclusion)
  • Basic knowledge of English will be an advantage
