Mission

In Ukraine, the organization "Geneva Call" (GZ) is launching a multi-year program to respond to the current situation with the goal in the short term of deepening knowledge among all parties involved in the conflict about compliance with the norms of international humanitarian law, and in the medium and long term - to promote policy development and ensure compliance norms related to the protection of civilians and public infrastructure and humanitarian access negotiations. In general, the Geneva Call aims to develop humanitarian engagement with armed parties and communities as a means of creating space for dialogue on the protection of civilians. The Geneva Call operates throughout the territory of Ukraine.

Role

The main activity of the Trainer is to conduct trainings on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) issues and compliance with IHL norms in military conflicts for various target audiences: local and international civil society/NGOs; stakeholders on the ground; weapon bearers, communities; civil, military and state authorities. IHL trainers work in coordination with the project team and in accordance with the work plan, budgets, donor requirements and internal procedures of the Geneva Call.

Main responsibilities

  • In cooperation with the senior IHL trainer, organize and conduct IHL trainings for key targets audiences of the Geneva Call, namely: 1) bearers of weapons, such as units of the TrO, DFTG and other volunteer battalions under the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; 2) civilians, such as police officers, public organizations, volunteers who deliver humanitarian aid; 3) the population living in the areas affected by the conflict;
  • In cooperation with the Legal and Policy Adviser and the Senior IHL Trainer, assist in the development and implementation of Geneva Call training materials in accordance with the training audience;
  • Responsible for the high-quality conduct and monitoring of trainings to the work plans, budget and procedures of the Geneva Call and donors;
  • Provide materials (photos, videos, storiesfrom the ground) about the project and report in a timely manner to demonstrate the results and achievements of the project.

Qualification requirements

  • Higher education (preferably in relevant fields such as political or social science, international humanitarian law or human rights);
  • Knowledge of IHL or knowledge of law or political Sciences;
  • Ability to share knowledge and explain technical concepts;
  • Ability to work in a team with other trainers to improve the training program according to the request of participants;
  • Experience using online work tools and the MS Office package;
  • Experience in conducting trainings, presentations, reports on IHL or related topics is desirable;
  • Availability training certificates for trainers on related topics will be an advantage;
  • Experience with international organizations will be an advantage;
  • Any military experience will be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of the English language is desirable.

Conditions

  • Contract type: consultant (agreement for the provision of services)
  • Place of work: Kyiv with possible trips throughout the territory of Ukraine in accordance with project tasks.
