Job Description

The Infant and Young Child Nutrition Training Specialist is expected to implement the Infant and Young Child Nutrition (IYCF) activities planned to be implemented at the national level and ensure the sustainability of the Infant and Young Child Nutrition activities  ( IYCF) in healthcare facilities. He/she will be responsible for providing clear links to other relevant services needed by mothers/carers of children mainly aged 6-23 months. Ensure monitoring of nutrition activities using standardized tools, and maintain professional relationships with key partners; Local authorities, doctors in service areas and International Medical Corps emergency response units (MPHSS, Health, WASH and GBV) providing integration and complementary services.  

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with health facility managers and local authorities, plan awareness-raising sessions on optimizing infant and young child nutrition (IYCF) through workshops, seminars and other relevant activities that promote general awareness regarding the feeding of infants and young children. 

  • Work closely with the International Medical Corps Health Division to ensure implementation of Infant and Young Child Nutrition (IYCF) optimization services in all IMC-supported health facilities. 

  • Work closely with Mother Baby Spaces staff, ensuring that carers of mothers in health facilities and in the community who require services provided by Mother Baby Spaces (MBS) or any other maternal service and the child, received proper instruction.  

  • Support the IYCF-E social behavior intervention. Distribute IYCF-E educational materials to health care facilities and community centers.


  • Work closely with Communications to develop key IYCF messages that can be delivered across radio, television and social media platforms.

  • Coordinate the distribution of baby kits and complementary foods in all areas under your control.

  • Monitor food intake, report usage, request new supplies, coordinating closely with MBS staff and reporting to the Food Service Manager.

  • Develop a weekly and monthly IYCF action plan and monitor the plan accordingly.

  • Prepare field visit plans and surveillance checklists in advance of trips.

  • Provide weekly, monthly reports to the catering manager.

  • Actively participate in any community or health care IYCF assessment required during project implementation.

  • Ensure that nutrition activities are well integrated with other sectors and there is close collaboration with these sectors – health, WASH, GH, MPHSS.

  • Participate in other IYCF-E program duties as requested and other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily exhaustive. 

Minimum requirements:  

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a humanitarian program, including at least 2 years on an IYCF-E/Nutrition project. 

  • Experience of working with the Ministry of Health, hospitals and medical institutions providing health care and nutrition services. 

  • Experience in working with Monitoring and Evaluation methods

  • Experience of working with stakeholders including local authorities, partners and other M/NGOs

  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in English and Ukrainian. 

  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and sensitivity to politics and culture 

  • Excellent PC knowledge, including Microsoft Office. 

  • Proven ability to work in hazardous environments. 

  • Ability to take initiative. 

  • High level of critical thinking and problem solving ability. 

  • Affinity with the organization's principles, mission and vision, commitment to humanitarian principles.
