MISSION:

The humanitarian organization "Arzte der Welt" is the German branch of the international network "Doctors of the World" (Medecins du Monde/Doctors of the World (MdM)). 17 national members of the network implement both domestic and international projects in the field of health care, currently we have almost 340 projects in 75 countries of the world.

MdM provides emergency medical care during natural disasters and crisis situations , supports access to health care and, if possible, assists in recovery efforts. In particular, the network is actively involved in risk reduction and preparedness, as well as long-term cooperation in underserved regions around the world. MdM Germany ensures that its health services are provided on equal terms to the most vulnerable citizens, refugees, internally displaced persons and host communities, regardless of their ethnic and social origin, religious or political beliefs. 

MdM has been working in Ukraine since 2015, focusing on the most vulnerable segments of the population and people, improving access and quality of medical services for the population. Since February 2022, the MdM organization has restructured its representation in Ukraine and appropriate changes have been made to the program. Currently, MdM has a coordination office in Dnipro and field offices in Vinnytsia and Kramatorsk. Emergency response in Ukraine is currently implemented around two main components: direct service delivery through multidisciplinary mobile teams (including primary health care, sexual reproductive health, psychosocial mental health support and support for victims of gender-based violence) to IDPs and strengthening local systems health care by distributing medicines and medical supplies to several hospitals and primary care facilities.

MAIN DUTIES

JOB DESCRIPTION< /strong>

The Healthcare Professional is an important link between GE's MDM and our services and the community in which we serve.

As a Healthcare Professional you will work on projects to develop strategies to address a wide range of health issues, from care for victims of sexual violence to prevention of infectious diseases. You will provide a direct link to the community outside of the hospital and play a critical role in ensuring GE's MDM projects are accessible and relevant to the communities they serve.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:< /p>

• Coordination of activities on various topics to support medical activities; this may include the promotion of health services

• Define and update the Health Professional's strategy and related activities through the annual project plan and budget (goals, theseleft audience, campaigns, messages, events, etc.)

• Analysis and understanding of local behavior and/or practices in order to adapt health care activities to the target group (supporting social mapping, using special tools to measure and follow-up)

• Promotion of GE MDM services in accordance with GE MDM principles, protocols and standards in order to increase the level of knowledge of the target population regarding their health.

• Evaluation and adaptation materials according to the needs of the project.

• Liaise with other relevant actors to improve campaigns.

• Know sexual and gender-based violence protocols and ensure their application (e.g. refer victims to the medical team for treatment)

• Contribute to monthly reports as directed (statistical reports, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma in Nursing, Community Development, Social Work or related disciplines.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated ability to work as a Healthcare Professional 'me.

• Demonstrated ability to work as a functional team member.

• Demonstrated ability to motivate others to action and/or change practice.

• Language requirements : Ukrainian and Russian at a high level.

EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate must have:

• At least 1 year of work experience in community projects or clinical experience working with people.

• Previous experience working in an NGO (similar position) is an added advantage.

• Understanding of the English language (an added advantage).

MdM provides emergency medical aid in disaster and crisis situations, supports access to health care and , if possible, assists with reconstruction measures. The network is also active in risk reduction and preparedness as well as long-term development cooperation in neglected regions around the world that receive little public attention. MdM ensures that its health services are provided equally to the most vulnerable citizens, refugees, internally displaced people and host communities, regardless of their ethnic, social, religious or political background. 

MdM has been operating in Ukraine since 2015, targeting the most vulnerable communities and people by improving access and quality of health care services for the population. Since February 2022 MdM has restructured its setting in Ukraine and adjusted the program accordingly. Currently MdM GE maintains a coordination office in Dnipro and field offices in Vinnytsia and Kramatorsk. The emergency response in Ukraine is currently implemented around two main components: direct delivery of services through multidisciplinary mobile units (including PHC, SRH, MHPSS and support to GBV survivors) to IDPs and strengthening the local health system through distribution of medicines and medical supplies to several hospitals and primary health care facilities.

GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE OF INTERVENTION:

The Health Promoter (HP) for Mobile Unit Team (MU) is based in Kramatorsk.

JOB SUMMARY

Health promoters are the essential liaison point between MDM GE and our services, and the community in which we provide services.

As a Health Promoter (HP), you will work in projects to develop strategies to address a wide range of health issues, from sexual violence care through to preventing infectious diseases. You will provide a direct link to the community outside the walls of the hospital and will play a vital role in ensuring that MDM GE projects are accessible and relevant to the communities they serve.

RESPONSIBILITIES DESCRIPTION:

• Define and update the HP strategy and related activities through an annual project and budget plan (objectives, target population, campaigns, messages, activities, etc.)

• Promote MDM GE services according to MDM GE principles, protocols and standards with the aim of increasing the knowledge of the target population in relation to their health.

• Assess and adapt materials according to the needs of the project.

• Be familiar with protocols for sexual and gender-based violence and ensure their application (e.g. referring victims to the medical team for treatment)

• Contribute to monthly reports according to guidelines (statistical reports, etc.)

Academic background:

College Diploma/Degree in Nursing, Community Development, Social Work or related disciplines.

  • Demonstrated capacity for working as a functioning member of a team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to motivate others into taking action and/or change of practise. 
  • Language requirements: Advanced Ukrainian and Russian is required.

  • At least 1 years of work experience in community projects or clinical experience with outreach experience.  
  • Previous experience for working for NGO is an added advantage.
  • Understanding of English language (is added advantage).
