HEALTH PROMOTER IEC OFFICER

Doctors without borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries of the world to the population in a difficult situation, victims of natural disasters, man-made disasters and armed conflicts, regardless of their race, religion or political beliefs.

MSF is a civil society initiative that unites people who want to help other people in crisis situations. Thus, MSF is an association by its own choice.

Everyone who works with MSF does so out of conviction and is willing to support the organization's values and principles.

Main goal:

Implement measures for health promotion and IES (information, education, communication) among beneficiaries and the local population in order to increase their awareness and develop practical skills on current medical issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Inform beneficiaries and communities about MSF and the services provided by this organization.
  • According to medical priorities, provide information on specific health issues to beneficiaries and the local population.
  • Conduct awareness raising and health education activities (sessions in hospitals).
  • Under the guidance of the Health and Information and Education Communication Manager, evaluate the effectiveness of activities (through surveys, knowledge testing, and behavioral observation), as well as report to him/her about problems, successes, and difficulties.
  • Collect all types of information and data on the state of health and living conditions of the population to identify the most vulnerable groups on which efforts should be directed.
  • Report To the manager of medical activities about the measures taken, identified problems, strengths and limitations. 
  • Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGOs and public health services that can contribute to the solution of social issues.
  • Maintain order in premises for educational and communication activities and ensure the availability of necessary materials.
  • Participate in the development and preparation of materials necessary for information and educational communication activities.

Features of the MSF unit:

  • Actively present andpromote MSF, the multidisciplinary team and their activities through participatory health promotion sessions for target populations.
  • Conduct initial assessment to support and educate beneficiaries through information and education communication (PSEC), conduct MSF induction and early rehabilitation talks for beneficiaries selected for the cohort MSF.
  • Implement and conduct various health conversations for injured beneficiaries and their caregivers.
  • Collect relevant data to monitor the quality of service delivery to beneficiaries: feedback, routine qualitative and quantitative indicators, the level of understanding of information messages.
  • Together with the line manager and the technical reference, develop and implement a satisfaction assessment beneficiaries of services received.
  • Support the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in communicating with beneficiaries to provide additional information on continuity of care (follow-up calls, referrals to various service centers).
  • Create a supportive environment for beneficiaries and their caregivers by working closely with the mental health team and conducting collaborative activities
  • Participate actively in cross-training for MOH and MSF staff.
  • Report by providing necessary and relevant information using official MSF data collection and reporting tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Education level in the field of social sciences, social communication, nursing or teaching

Experience:

  • Preferred experience in teaching, nursing or social work, organization of community activities.
  • Preferred work experience in MSF or other non-governmental organization.

Knowledge of languages: fluency in Ukrainian; knowledge of the English language is desirable.
