Purpose of the position

Senior Teacher supports the implementation of the project financed by AICS - HOPE (Health, Outreach, Protection, Education) - Public services in the field of health care, protection and education for vulnerable groups in Ukraine. The position provides additional education, socio-emotional support and opportunities for comprehensive development to children affected by the humanitarian crisis. In addition to teaching duties, the Senior Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the community center, combining teaching activities with partial administrative and operational tasks.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Teaching and teaching

  • Planning, preparing and conducting educational activities in accordance with the curriculum and project objectives.

  • Evaluating children's progress and adapting teaching methods for satisfaction various needs.

  • Conducting group and individual classes (with parental consent, where necessary).

  • Using modern teaching methods, digital tools and innovative approaches.

  • Ensuring inclusivity and child orientation taking into account psychosocial and age needs.

Child protection and welfare

  • Creating a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment.

  • Preventing and responding to incidents of bullying, discrimination or violence in accordance with protection policies.

  • Encouraging healthy habits and raising awareness of the risks of harmful behavior.

  • Supporting the socialization, adaptation and resilience of children in the collective environment.

  • Immediately informing the coordinator about any cases concerning the protection of children.

Extracurricular activities and work with the community

  • Organization of extracurricular activities (sports, art, cultural events) to develop creativity and teamwork.

  • Cooperation with parents and guardians to strengthen the connection between home and school.

  • Working closely with colleagues and psychologists to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.

Administrative and operational support

  • Ensuring the daily functioning of the community center, maintaining an organized and friendly environment.

  • Maintaining, updating and saving project documentation, databases and internal archives.

  • Organization and management of document storage systems (electronic and paper) in accordance with the organization's standards.

  • Support for the preparation and submission of financial and administrative reports in accordance with the organization's requirements.

Communication and Coordination

  • Facilitating communication and coordination between project teams, organizational departments and external partners.

  • Ensuring the timely dissemination of information and documentation within the team.

  • Immediately informing the Project Manager about any problems or risks that may affect the implementation of the project.

Basic requirements

Education

  • Higher education in the field of pedagogy, education or related fields.

Experience

  • Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in emergency situations or additional education.

  • Experience in administrative or coordination work will be an advantage.

  • Lesson planning and classroom management skills.

Languages

  • Native Ukrainian.

  • Basic knowledge of English (oral and written).

Necessary skills and competencies

  • Pedagogical skills for conducting interesting and age-appropriate lessons.

  • Orientation on the child taking into account psychosocial needs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Flexibility in adapting teaching methods and administrative processes.

  • Commitment to the principles of child protection and humanitarian values.

Desired qualifications

  • Previous experience in humanitarian or social projects.

  • Experience supporting children who have experienced psychosocial stress or trauma.

  • Familiarity with administrative procedures and reporting requirements.

  • Knowledge of children's rights and protection principles.

Aim of the Position

>The Head Teacher supports the implementation of the AICS-funded project style="font-weight: 400">HOPE (Health, Outreach, Protection, Education) – Community-Based Health, Protection and Education Services for Vulnerable Groups in Ukraine. The role ensures that children affected by the humanitarian crisis receive remedial education, social-emotional support, and opportunities for holistic development. In addition, the Head Teacher will oversee the daily functioning of the community center, combining teaching responsibilities with partial administrative and operational duties.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver structured educationional sessions in line with the curriculum and project objectives.

  • Assess children’s learning progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs.

  • Provide both group and individual support sessions, with parental consent as required.

  • Integrate modern teaching methodologies, digital tools, and innovative approaches into lessons.

  • Ensure lessons are inclusive, child-centered, and adapted to psychosocial and developmental needs.

Child Protection and Well-being

  • Promote a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

  • Prevent and respond to incidents of bullying, discrimination, or violence in line with safeguarding policies.

  • Encourage healthy lifestyle habits and raise awareness about risks of harmful behaviors.

  • Support children’s socialization, adaptation, and resilience in collective and social environments.

  • Immediately report any safeguarding concerns, including cases of violence or abuse, to the Coordinator.

Extracurricular and Community Engagement

  • Organize extracurricular activities (sports, arts, cultural events) to foster creativity, teamwork, and holistic development.

  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers to strengthen the home–school connection.

  • Work closely with colleagues and psychologists to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to child well-being.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Ensure the daily functioning of the community center, maintaining an organized and welcoming environment.

  • Maintain, update, and safeguard project documentation, databases, and internal archives.

  • Organize and manage filing systems (both electronic and paper-based) in line with organizational standards.

  • Support the preparation and submission of financial and administrative reports in compliance with organizational requirements.

Communication and Coordination

  • Facilitate communication and coordination between project teams, organizational departments, and external partners.

  • Ensure timely dissemination of information and documentation within the team.

  • Report immediately to the Project Manager any issues or risks that may affect project implementation, in line with AVSI Foundation procedures.

Essential Requirements

Education

  • University degree in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field.

Experience

  • Proven experience working with school-aged children, preferably in emergency or remedial education contexts.

  • Experience in administrative or coordination roles considered an asset.

  • Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills.

Languages

  • Native Ukrainian speaker.

  • Basic knowledge of English (spoken and written).
