Join us on the journey!Purpose of Position:The Director will help support the work of the Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) Farmer Relations and Outreach team, specifically in ongoing communications to the 80-plus dairy farmer leaders who serve on the DMI Board of Directors. This work includes writing regular board memos and other communications, developing board-focused resources to help board members engage with fellow farmers in checkoff-related news and information (including training resources), and supporting the creation and development of board-focused speeches, talking points and presentations. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of seven years of experience with strong written/verbal communications. Previous experience with commodity checkoff programs is highly desired.Key Accountabilities:Board communications: Support creation and development of overall board relations and communications strategy Lead day-to-day board communications, including the development of regular communications materials that included (but are not limited to):Regular board memos that provide updates, results and breaking news on checkoff programs and activities, and/or major industry-related newsWeekly development and distribution of checkoff news/recap materialsProvide proactive and response-based communications on potential opportunities/issues that impact checkoff-related priorities and plansCreate presentations and talking points for individual board officer/member speaking opportunities, as appropriateResource materials to help support board-focused communications, interpersonal and other communications training opportunities Prepare talking points, scripts and presentation support for regular board meetings and annual meetings, as appropriate Address board member requests and needs Position requiresAbility to take internal information and build compelling storytelling to reach farmer audiencesKeen attention to detail and fluidity to adapt to evolving conditions, assignments and deadlinesAbility and willingness to respond quickly to individual board member requestsUnderstanding of and sensitivity to board and industry dynamics and considerationsAbility to coordinate and work with an integrated team, which has various personalities and skill sets, and cultivate relationships across plan disciplines (e.g., content and planning management, research, digital, measurement and analytics)Other Engage and support DMI Farmer Relations team around major farmer meetings and events, specifically in engaging board members (e.g., World Ag Expo, World Dairy Expo, checkoff annual meeting) Support development and execution of grassroots farmer outreach and communications planContent creation and implementation of Making Every Drop Count campaignDevelopment and distribution of ongoing farmer-focused communications (e.g., annual report, brochures, handouts, FAQs)Support earned and owned farmer-focused digital strategy, including website and social media channels Participate in department-wide annual meeting planning and execution; implementation of to-be-determined annual meeting-related tasks/assignments Support departmental operations processes and planning, where appropriate Position requirements:Keen attention to detail and fluidity in adapting to evolving conditions, assignments and deadlinesAbility to coordinate effectively with an integrated team with various personalities and skill sets, and cultivate relationships across various disciplines (e.g., project management, digital, analytics/measurement/evaluation)RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field Must have at least seven years of relevant experience in communications, marketing or related fields Agriculture, commodity checkoff or trade association experience requiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have strong content/project management, including working with applicable management platforms, and written/verbal/interpersonal communications skills Proficient in Microsoft programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) Demonstrate ability to effectively multi-task, delegate and manage assignments Travel approximately 25%BenefitsWe know that in order to meet our goal of growing dairy demand, we need the best people.
