About the job 

The ICRC Protection Unit is seeking a highly capable Detention Field Officer to join our team in Kyiv. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Detention Field Office will contribute to implementing the ICRC’s detention activities in Ukraine in terms of improvement of detainees condition of detention by supporting and participating in defined activities per the delegation’s strategy, objectives, and action plan. The Detention Field Officer will develop and maintain contacts with authorities and other actors, contributing to good collaboration between the ICRC, official authorities, and other international organizations. S/he implements and follows up activities to support the ICRC’s detention activities in Ukraine.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support the detention team in organizing activities with the authorities and other interlocutors
  • Analyze and share information on security, socioeconomic, cultural, and political factors and report on any changes
  • Support the designing and implementation of detention-related projects and ensure that related administrative tasks are done and followed up on time
  • Support writing of reports, minutes of workshops, seminars, and meetings 
  • Support the organization of seminars, thematic workshops, training modules, and training sessions on relevant issues in the field of detention
  • Prepare for, participate in, and follow up on various detention activities
  • Support building of relationships with local authorities, communities, and suppliers

About you

To be successful as a Detention Field Officer in the Protection Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • University degree or relevant professional experience
  • Typically, 2 -3 years of professional experience in a relevant field, such as social, political or economic sciences 
  • Experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian organization is an asset
  • Professional fluency (written and oral) in English and Ukrainian
  • Computer literate, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
