You can read more about us at: www.opal-data.com. Job Summary:The Data Engineer will report directly to Opal’s founder / technical lead. As a core member of a small team, the position provides an opportunity for growth across a wide range of technical skillsets, as well as experience working in a wide range of industries across our client projects. Because of the broad range of work we do; candidates are not expected to be experts in every technical task outlined below. Instead, intelligence, curiosity, and excitement about experimentation and learning are going to the most important determinants of success in this position. We believe strongly in developing our team members and promoting from within. A baseline familiarity with programming, data analysis, and data shaping, along with strong proficiency in Python are the foundations we are looking to build on.The position is a good fit for those who are looking to grow their careers and become a data scientist, machine learning engineer, or software engineer.Major Responsibilities:Clean and analyze datasetsUse APIs and build scrapers to ingest data into programs and data warehousesBuild pipelines to move and transform data as neededWork with cloud platforms, both internal and client-managed, to host code and store dataCreate ETL scripts to shape data for visualization and automation tasksVisualize data in one-off analyses, as well as for dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, DOMO, etcHelp prepare datasets and create variables for machine learning projectsWrite clean, well-documented codeQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in a computational field; or, in lieu of formal education, 1-3 years of similar technical work experienceExtremely proficient in PythonAt least a basic knowledge of SQLFluency in EnglishData analysis experience, including at least a basic familiarity with joining tables, finding the data that matters, and extracting and combining those data points into insightsPlease mention any of the following nice-to-haves:Any other programming languages usedExperience with Tableau, Power BI, DOMO, or other dashboarding platformsExperience building or expanding data warehousesMachine learning / predicting modeling experience Show more Show lessJob Level Entry Level Employment Type Contract Employment Job Responsibilities Information Technology Industries Data Infrastructure and Analytics
