Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is opening a vacancy of a Communications Officer with fluent English.
The position is based in Mykolaiv with extensive travel to other NPA programme locations across Ukraine as required and approved by the Security Department.
The Communications Officer formally reports and will work closely with the Grants & Reporting Manager in planning, developing, implementing and monitoring NPA Ukraine’s communications approach. This includes the communications and visibility plan, its objectives and goals, as well as measurable and trackable indicators.
The Communications Officer will play a key role in managing the programme’s social media accounts, produce engaging communications content, and coordinate and support with maintaining a network of Ukrainian journalists and media outlets in order to promote NPA’s work and its impact among conflict-affected populations.
Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Support with the implementation and monitoring of NPA Ukraine’s Communications and Visibility Plan, in line with the NPA Country Strategy and NPA Communication Strategy.
- Develop and produce digital content, including photos, videos and social media content to be published on NPA social media channels.
- Support the development, implementation and monitoring of communication campaigns, including for social media, in line with NPA guidelines and visual profile.
- Contribute to managing NPA Ukraine’s public relations, social media accounts, and other channels.
- In coordination with the Grants & Reporting Manager, create media content (photo, video and written articles) portraying and promoting NPA’s work and humanitarian impact in Ukraine.
- Identify good human impact stories and communicate them through written articles and visual storytelling.
- As needed and requested by the Grants & Reporting Manager, support field visits for journalists, photographers and communications staff from NPA’s Oslo Head Office to NPA’s activities and field operations.
- Network with local and national journalists to organise media visits, and get news items, videos and articles published about NPA’s work in Ukraine.
- Conduct and record interviews with staff, beneficiaries and stakeholders about NPA’s work in Ukraine.
- Support the development and design of visual communications materials (digital and print) to aid and promote NPA’s work in Ukraine.
- Regularly report to the Grants & Reporting Manager on progress and resultsand propose new communications ideas or approaches.
- Any other duties as tasked by NPA’s Grants & Reporting Manager.
Required qualifications:
Must have:
- Relevant higher education and/or relevant background (preferably a University Degree).
- Professional knowledge of English and Ukrainian.
Desirable:
- Valid driving license, type B.
- Additional diplomas or training courses in media, public relations, communications, design.
Experience:
We are looking for candidates who possess a combination of the following skills and experiences. While it’s not necessary to have all, having experience in some of these areas is required.
- Proven professional experience in the field of media, public relations, social media management, or communications.
- Skills in photo- and/or videography and editing, whether as a hobby or professional.
- Familiarity with photo/video editing and/or design software such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, Premiere, Publisher, Photoshop (it is not necessary to have experience with all these programmes, but experience with some editing/design software is required).
- Demonstrated experience in writing updates and/or articles for (online) publication.
- Ablility to plan and facilitate field visits by journalists and photographers to NPA’s activities and field operations.
- Experience working as a journalist, or working with local/national media in a professional capacity.
- Demonstrated skills in creative storytelling and talent for identifying and creating good human impact stories.
- Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring media communication campaigns.

- Good cultural, networking, and interpersonal skills.
- Structured, with excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate activities often within tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Ability and willingness to work and live under stressful and hazardous conditions.
What we offer:
- Monthly salary of USD 2000 before taxes. This salary shall be payable in Ukrainian Hryvnia at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine on the date of payment.
