Our activity in Ukraine began in 2014. Since then, we have greatly expanded our geographic presence, providing support to children and families affected by war. We work in areas such as education, child protection, food security and social support, as well as advocacy activities aimed at ensuring lasting change in children's lives. 

Purpose of the position:

The Child Rights Adviser (CRG TA) will provide technical leadership and expert support within the SIDA CSO project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of local civil society organizations to integrate children's rights as a key component of their activities. 

The role will focus on building capacity, developing partnerships and supporting advocacy so that local authorities can effectively demand and support the realization of children's rights, ensure accountability of duty bearers and empower children and communities to advocate for their rights.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Develop and implement a child rights management strategy within the SIDA CSO project.

  • Provide technical advice on child rights programming, governance and accountability mechanisms.

  • Support organizations in integrating child rights into their organizational policies and advocacy agendas.

Capacity building and mentoring

  • Develop and deliver training, coaching and mentoring support on child rights governance (CRG), child participation and social accountability.

  • Promote sharing of experiences and networking between organizations to disseminate best practices and innovation.

Program quality

  • Ensure integration of CRG principles into the design, implementation and monitoring of partner activities.

  • Support the development of evidence-based advocacy strategies to influence policy and practice.

  • Contribute to systems strengthening approaches for sustainability and scaling up.

Evidence and learning

  • Document and disseminate lessons, successful practices and evidence of impact.

  • Contribute to research and training initiatives on child rights management and strengthening the role of civil society.

External engagement

  • Represent Save the Children and projectt SIDA CSOs in relevant forums and networks.

  • Build strategic partnerships with local authorities, state bodies and donors to promote children's rights.

To be successful, you need to have:  

Education

  • Master's degree in political science, social science, law, human rights or related field.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in child rights programming and governance.

  • In-depth understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), strengthening civil society and children's participation.

Experience (required)

  • At least 7 years of experience in child rights, governance or strengthening civil society.

  • Proven experience in capacity building and developing partnerships with civil society organizations.

  • Thorough understanding human rights-based approaches and advocacy.

  • Experience with tools such as Child Rights Situation Analysis (CRSA), Political Economy Analysis (PEA).

  • Excellent networking, representation and influence skills.

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian languages.
