Child Protection (CP) Coordinator "Save the Children International" is a humanitarian organization with more than 100 years of history.

Save the Children was founded in May 1919 in London. SCI has been working in Ukraine since 2014. It started its work in the territory of Donetsk region. Currently, SCI is expanding its activities to eight cities in Ukraine, and Mykolaiv is one of them. We work in the areas of education, child protection, overcoming child poverty, health care, and also conduct advocacy activities related to the protection of children's rights.

Main duties:

for emergency situations.
  • Responsible for effective coordination with implementing partners and teams in the field and within the organization to obtain technical support to ensure the quality and smooth operation of the program
  • Regular field monitoring of field activities conditions to ensure timely implementation of the program
  • Monitors existing services and implements innovative ways to support the child protection system.
  • Supports partner staff and teachers to monitor child protection quality indicators.
  • Provides support in documenting project success stories and case studies
  • Regularly participates in the preparation of periodic program reports.
  • Responsible for decision-making, effective management of resources, achievement and implementation of Save the Children values .
  • To be successful, you need to have:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field : education, social sciences.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience working in educational programs of primary education, secondary education and/or early childhood education.
    • Experience of working in NGOs in complex contexts, taking into account cooperation with government.
    • Experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate solutions.
    • Strong relationship-building, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in conducting trainings for teachers.

    • Fluency in spoken and written English and Ukrainian.
    • Proven experience in financial management.

    We work in the directions of education, child protection, overcoming child poverty, health care, and also we have advocacy activities related to the protection of children's rights.

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The Child Protection Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and management of SC Ukraine's East emergencies Response CP programs (direct implementation and partners monitoring) in the corresponding field office. With supervision of the CP& MHPSS Program Manager and technical guidance PDQ Child Protection Technical Specialists, the CP Program Coordinator will take responsibility for directly implementing high quality, effective and efficient child protection response. S/he will be responsible to coordinate effectively with the implementing partners, and the teams in the field and also within the organization to gain technical support for quality assurance and smooth program operations. Child Protection Coordinator will also be expected to support on representation, project planning, coordination, when necessary conducting CP assessment, and support fundraising, recruitment and procurement. The post holder is expected to assess, monitor and document gaps in existing services and innovate ways to strengthen the Ukraine child protection system by incorporating shock resilience and capacity strengthening.

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

    Demonstrate to the highest levels, Save the Children's leadership behaviors including communicating vision and strategic purpose, external orientation, managerial courage and building high performance teams.

    < p>Plan, Design and Implement program, organization's strategy and the general CP sector plan:

    •        Work closely with CP& MHPSS Program Manager, other sectors in day-to-day coordination of Child Protection program/ response interventions, including staff supervision, development of staff work plans and reporting to ensure proposed results are achieved on time, within budget and in compliance with donor requirements.

    •        Provide support and orientation for Case Management and Psychosocial Support Officers, partners  and other agencies on setting up and managing Child Protection response. 

    •        Assist in effective and efficient implementation of the program as Ukraine Humanitarian Response Strategy  and targets set in the Strategic Plan; involving, among others, technical team and other members of the programme management team.

    •        Establishing the detailed implementation plan and ensuring the activities are implemented according to the detailed implementation plan;

    •        Seek formal and informal technical expertise from CP as well as other thematic sectors and arrange support to specific projects through field visits or as appropriate.

    •        Closely monitor, assess the capacity and gaps in services within team and partners, devise the response plan on the basis of system analysis and monitor that it contributes to strengthen a shock resilient Child Protection System.

    •        Make regular visits to the field; carry out process monitoring and provide feedback and support for achieving high quality CP prevention and response.

    •        Where challenges arise, ensure that these are flagged early, communicated to the  CP& MHPSS Programme Manager and addressed in an appropriate way; Communicate and share learning with other Child Protection Coordinators involved in the emergency response.

    TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU NEED TO HAVE: 

    • University degree in social sciences, preferably in a subject related to child rights and protection.
    • 2-4 years progressively advanced management experience in child protection including at least experience in emergencies setting. 
    • Substantial experience in all aspects of project management within the NGO development sector including working in partnership with local NGOs. 
    • Proven experience in financial management and administration.
    • Proven ability to work in culturally diverse and challenging environments including first hand emergencies response.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team management skills.
    • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook
    • Fluency in spoken and written English and Ukrainian.
