Chief Engineer Officer
Reports to: Master
Responsibilities:
Without negating the Master's responsibility, the Chief Engineer is the head of the Engine Department. His responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Technical advice to the Master.
• Operation and Maintenance of all machinery in Passengers area, engine room and on deck according to Classification Societies requirements, Flag State requirements, national and international rules and regulations.
• Control and update of Class Surveys, certificates, records, files, drawings, ORB, etc.
• Verification of recording in Engine Log Book by signature once every day.
• Administration and training of engineers and crew for next level of responsibility.
• Safety in the engine room.
• In the case of fire in the Engine Room or other areas covered by fixed extinguishing systems, subject to the Master's authorisation, the Chief Engineer will release the system.
• Requiring sufficient bunkers and consumption control of MGO.
• The Chief Engineer is in charge of the bunkering operation.
• It is the responsibility of the Chief Engineer to ensure that there is sufficient lubrication oil on board at the beginning of each passage to meet the anticipated consumption, together with one full charge for all different systems.
• Repairs and service when required from shore.
• Prepare, maintain and follow-up dry-docking lists, budget and cost control.
• Reporting to Managers on machinery related matters, such as maintenance reports. The Chief Engineer is expected to revert to the office by phone, fax or E-mail if he suspects that the Management does not realise the urgency of the matter.
• Overall follow up and overall responsibility on continuous updating of the Planned Maintenance System, including the spare parts system.
• Management of oily water mixtures in line with MARPOL requirements.
• Be familiar and strictly comply with Star Clippers safety and environmental procedures.
• Ensuring that MARPOL 73/78 requirements are followed
