Supervises personnel such as trip leaders, instructors, and climbing wall staff.Job ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership to and oversee all aspects of the climbing wall/adventure program. Establish and enforce policies that provide for the effective operation of the adventure program.Responsible for the effective delivery, evaluation, and reporting of the climbing wall/adventure program to include, but not limited to: program development, scheduling and implementation; program registration; equipment procurement, inventory, repair, and replacement; and participant development and discipline.Responsible for preparing, presenting, and implementing short and long-term climbing wall/adventure programming goals.Responsible for coordination of all climbing wall/adventure personnel including recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, development, payroll and discipline. Responsible for ensuring all climbing wall/adventure personnel maintain training and certification in line with industry standards. Cover and provide scheduling for weekend, early morning, and evening programs and events/trainings as required.Responsible for procurement, coordination, and evaluation of vendor relations related to climbing wall/adventure program to include outsourcing contracts.Responsible for the preparation, presentation, and implementation of the climbing wall/adventure program and budget(s) to include coordinating and meeting expense and revenue goals.Provide vision and administration towards efficient and effective climbing wall/adventure program services through engagement in systematic strategic planning, assessment, and reporting.Review and evaluate climbing wall/adventure program operations to ensure that appropriate risk management precautions and procedures are in place or developed.Participate in campus-wide collaborations that serve the overall mission of Campus Recreation and the University as a whole Serve on campus boards and committees as well as system-wide and national associations.Provide staff and Penn community CPR/First Aid certification trainings.Perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsHS diploma/GED and 5 to 7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, sport management, physical education, other related field, and at least two years of progressive management and supervisory experience in adventure programming preferred. Experience in university recreation preferred.Current American Red Cross Adult CPR and AED certification or equivalent. Will be required to obtain these certifications within the first 30 days of employment.Additional QualificationsDemonstrated budgetary, risk management, and supervisory experience.Demonstrated ability to achieve assigned objectives, within budget and desired time frame.Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and practices in climbing walls/adventure programming.Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community.Commitment to student development and ability to motivate and work closely with students/staff.Demonstrated ability to collaborate, form partnerships, and work effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team.Ability to oversee projects and manage multiple priorities.Preference will be given to candidates who already possess one or more of the following instructor level certifications: Wilderness First Responder or related from Wilderness Medicine Institute (WMI), CPR, American Red Cross First Aid and AED.
