We work on the homeland of the Wahpekute, one of the seven primary bands of the Dakotas. The Dakota people lived in Minnesota for thousands of years before being unjustly forced into signing the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux to cede land in southern and western Minnesota to the U.S. government in 1851. The government has never paid the approximately $3 million promised in the treaty.
